It's that time of year again where I get to hike the trail vicariously through others who share their adventures in a journal. I would like to start this thread for everyone to post links to interesting journals/blogs from this year. If you have any that look promising please post them here. I'll get things started:

http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=481768 - This one is for Lucky, an elderly (over 70) gentleman. He seems like a really nice guy and I'm entertained by his posts.

I can't promise it'll be interesting; but, I plan to update mine frequently with pictures and videos. Link is in my signature. I may even do some giveaways and stuff while out there if I have enough people following/subscribing.

http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=483434 This one looks like it will be a keeper! Her Dad is keeping the journal while hiking daughter and fiancé are out! Funny

http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=481859 I'll try to keep it more fun than mileage counts. Out on the 17th!

So far I've been doing pretty well with mine. Link is in the signature. Just updated it again today and finally got some wifi so I'll be adding a few short videos, too.

Just thought I would bump this to see if anyone had any new ones they had come across.

Thanks Boomer for the link. I'm following! Keep up the good work.

I've found Wordpress and Blogspot as the two easiest ways for people to keep up with blogs. Wordpress especially has a great "reader" feature that feeds in new posts. So, any new prospective thru-hikers / bloggers, please set up your blog in wordpress!

Is there a way to get a "feed" in Trail Journals? Right now I have to manually go and check with the hikers I'm interested in.

Hikernutcasey,

Thanks for posting this! I was thinking of asking the same thing. I've been wading thru a LOT of blogs/journals, but many leave a lot to be desired (no fault of the hiker- I know they're busy walking). I have only come across a few that are written REALLY well, like a story, but they were from last year. I'll share those if you like. These are what I'm following this year so far (already following Boomer).

Here's one that's not too much on the narrative but had GREAT photos- http://iamhikinghome.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

This one on Appalachian Trials looks promising: http://appalachiantrials.com/author/courtneymariehans/

Haven't even really started reading this one, but from his layout, it looks like a lot of thought was put into it! https://pjcoleman17.wordpress.com/

Another blog worth taking a look at; there are a couple good reads on last year's shakedown hikes as well. http://www.thebusquestion.com/

Light on photos, heavy on narrative-http://redpackwalking.blogspot.com/

Looking at this guy's gear, I can't wait to see how his trip goes- https://at2015bhc.wordpress.com/

Houdini's blog, a redditor, recommended by reddit- http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=482683

An early starter- http://mikesbighike.blogspot.com/2015/01/right-blog.html

Another blogger on reddit recommended by peers- http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=480812

One more from Appalachian Trials- http://appalachiantrials.com/the-adventure-begins-amicalola-falls-to-dicks-creek-gap/

These blogs aren't from 2015, but kept me extremely engaged throughout their trips. Well worth reading again!

Texaco- a member her(excellent read)- http://www.2180miles.com/

Karma on the Trail; I loved her spunk and writing style- https://thumperwalk.wordpress.com/2012/06/

"Sparky" a cool dude from Great Britiain- http://www.sparkyhikes.com/

You should add some tags to your posts to increase visibility. I didn't see any of your posts because you didn't show up under any of the tags I follow. Definitely add "Appalachian Trail" and "Hiking" tags to your posts so more people can find them.

I'm glad you mentioned your blog. Now I'm off to catch up on the start of your trip :)

If you read my initial post, you see I'm so far from tech-savvy it isn't funny! I had a tough time figuring out how to make the hyperlinks to YouTube show up as words rather than an address.

If you'll tell me what you mean by 'tags' I'll go on there and fix it today while I'm catching it up to today's date.

Thanks guys! Definitely enjoying it and it's fun getting emails of people following the blog. It's like inspiration. I feel like I have to slow down and enjoy the trail more so I can share it with everyone!

I've bookmarked your site so I can follow along :) I do that for people I want to follow who aren't using tags I read.

I'm assuming you're using some sort of mobile interface to post so it may look different than what I see. On my posts, way down on the right hand side is a box labeled Tags. You can type anything in there to create a tag others can follow. If you use a commonly used tag it will reach the audience that follows that tag, so if you tag your posts "Appalachian Trail" anyone following that tag will see your updates. Once you've typed a tag in you can click the link for a list of your commonly used tags so you don't have to keep typing it every time.

Really enjoying your posts. Keep having fun out there and keep hiking. Post if you can, but don't let it get in the way of that other stuff :)

If you like winter backpacking trips (and their journals), check out a trip I did in 2011---

http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?trailname=11648

Also check out each year's Journals and start with January as there's alot of descriptions of cold weather backpacking and camping.

Let me make sure I'm following you - I have to add the tag to each post? I just logged in with a computer and found a menu item called 'Tags.' I went to it and added a bunch of them. Will that take care of it, in general, or will I have to make sure I add them to each one? I just want to make sure I do it correctly, thanks!

I went ahead and checked on my phone to see if I could find where 'tags' is located to make sure I add them to each post. I found it on there, as well, for each draft. I'll just make sure I add them to each update in case the ones I just did on the computer aren't automatically added.

Thanks for the advice!

Anyone ran across any good ones lately?
