Hello class of 2015!
I've had an idea of offering free pizza delivery for those of you that stay at the Windsor furnace shelter in PA (mile 1223.2 for NOBO). I used to be fairly involved in the hiker community in years past, but had fallen away recently. So I thought of this as a bit of trail Magic and to also stay connected to people who love to hike, like me! So what do you all think? Would you take me up on my offer if I leave a note with my # at the shelter? Unfortunately due to a full time job and responsibility at home. The delivery would only happen in the late afternoon or night. ( and also unfortunately you would have to pay for the pizza ( only free delivery, sorry)). Would you take me up on my offer? Please let me know!
Happy trails

"Would you take me up on my offer?" Come on, do you really need to ask? Your phone will be ringing off the hook. Cold Yuengling for a big tip.

I'll be coming thru that area late April or early May on my flip-flop thru hike. I would take you up on your offer if I was around that shelter late afternoon or evening.

Allegheny, don't sweat it. Even though I wouldn't deliver the booze even if I was of age, I certainly won't deny you your pizza rights!

That's fine.

One more thought. Be sure to remove the pie boxes.

Yes, I'm in the process of trying to figure out how to get the trash removed. If anyone has any bright ideas, let me know.

Here's an idea, you pack it in, you pack it out.

Oh most certainly yes, but how fast can you eat a pizza? I do want to help as much as I can, but I might not always have the time to hang around and wait till everyone is done. Don't know for sure. Some things you just have to play by ear. Rest assured, I'll make sure the shelter and surrounding area stays clean.

How fast can a thru-hiker eat a pizza? My guess, 3 minutes for a large ;)

It won't be a problem, you'll want to hang around and talk with the hikers anyway.

Maybe carry some large ziplock bags so they can carry any left overs. That way you can take the boxes out with you when you leave.

In 2013 I took a group of Scouts to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico for an 85 mile trek. There was one road crossing during the entire trip and we knew we could call an nearby town for pizza delivery to that location. We called in for 10 pizzas and five 2L bottles of Coke. An hour later a lady pulls up in a Cadillac Escalade full of pizza. It took the 18 of us about 10 minutes to eat all of it. We loaded all the trash up in the Caddy and she took it with her. No pizza was left over and no trash was left behind.

Sounds good, and thanks for the ideas of ziplock bags.
