This time of year people are buying gear and getting on the trail. But in choosing gear, many forget the functionality of colour in what they buy. This bugs me, so I wrote a couple of poems about it.
Why I Wear Orange
If you don't want to be found,
its good to wear brown
If you you don't want to be seen,
try out being green,
Oh, gear on the ground,
should be red to be found.
And shades black and blue
help the bugs to find you.
I like to wear orange
to avoid getting shot.
Black and Blue
Blue and black, black and blue, oh howI hate you.
Soaking heat in the sun, melting foodto a goo.
Mosquitoes and black flies comecrowding in flocks;
attracted by blue pants, blue pack andblack socks.
Can't be found in the woods, in thenight, in a sack.
I'll never use blue-black to put on myback
These colours are slimming when out onthe town;
But on a true hiker, they'll never befound.
