So what's the shelf life of permethrin? I bought a quart so I can soak my clothes. I don't think I'll use more than 4 oz. How long will it last in the dark basement? 4 oz per year is 8 years worth.

How often are you planning to treat your clothes? Instructions that come with Sawyers bottles say that it is effective for 6 week / 6 washes or so. I usually re-apply every month in prime tick season. Maybe this quart will last you less time than you think.

I'm not gonna use the spray, but the 36.8% concentrate (diluted properly) and soak my stuff. It lasts much longer than the spray.

If your dark basement is not subject to lots of temperature fluctuations, especially freezes, I'd bet it will be good for 4-5 years. After 7 I'd bet it's shot even in a dark basement though.

The bugs will let you know.

My guess would be ONLY 2 years

I'll call the 800 # on the back of the bottle and let you know.

A data sheet for the Sawyer's spray permethrin is found at http://www.forestry-suppliers.com/Documents/213_msds.pdf

It specifies shelf life at 4 years for the spray. The data sheet Rocketsocks found addresses stability. It states that sunlight and heat are issues. Another data sheet I found specified a 10 year shelf life for unopened concentrate.

Comparing with the data sheets, most of the guesses and/or estimates have been reasonable.
