126 miles (doing this from memory, so I might be off just a little) from Springer to Fontana Dam, southern entrance to the Smokies. That's where I had to stop on my last section hike, so it's pretty fresh in my mind.

If memory serves, it's closer to 160-odd miles from Springer to Fontana Dam and the southern end of Great Smoky Mountain National Park.

Geez, I kicked the numbers again! I meant 162. Hate it when I do that.

When you get to Fontana Dam it's time to dump the dog(s). Don't know why you want to even take along the pets.

Well it is against the rules in the Smokies. So if you know how to hike with dogs, you also know to follow the rules.

Your right, I don't take my dog into the GSMNP. I am talking about hiking with dogs elsewhere where dogs are allowed. If someone wants to take their dog hiking and knows what their doing, then fine. For someone else who says dogs don't belong on any trail.... well that is their opinion and not always shared by all. That is all I was trying to say. :) Thanks.
