In the past I've used a newtrent battery back up for my AT hikes but since getting iphone 6 plus the 6500 only recharges lil over one time...I plan to use my phone for camera, tracking, kindle and music..in mainly airplane mode should get at least 2-3 days of use. Plan to charge at tm, ml and not sure abt mtr. From mtr I hope to finish in 7-8 days.. Should I look at a solar charger or another larger battery back up.

There are some crazy cheap deals on anker external batteries on Amazon. Most of the larger capacity batteries are around $20. The Anker 10000 is $22 and seems popular with this year's PCT thrus. http://www.amazon.com/10000mAh-Portable-External-Technology-Motorola/dp/B009USAJCC It is too much weight for me and not needed due to my minimal phone use. I'm carrying the Anker Astro Mini instead. Just $13 on amazon.

I picked up the Anker 2nd Gen Astro E5 16000mAh it weighs in at 11oz on my scale. I know that is a little heavy for some but I'm using it to recharge my Galaxy S5, Sony AS100 actioncam, Black Diamond Revolt headlamp and my Neoair mini pump. I won't be taking any batteries with my 2015 JMT only the Anker to recharge all my devices. I should be able to recharge my Galaxy S5 (4 to 5 times), the Sony Actioncam, Black Diamond headlamp & Neoair mini pump as many times as need on one single charge of the Anker 16000.

I recently use the Anker 16000 on a 8 day trip overseas recharging all these device + my wifes Galaxy S5 and only recharged the Anker twice. This was with very heavy usage of the phones and camera. Even when the Anker was nearly empty I was able to fully charge it overnight (7-8 hours) while I slept.

Thx all looks like the 10,000 mah should be plenty for phone only.....am thinking about that lt pump for my neoair lg....its a pain in the arse to inflate after a long day...altitude will only make more of a pita!! I've heard batteries last a long time in the pump

Yes the batteries in the Neoair mini pump last around 3 weeks of daily use. I have timed it with my Neoair xlite regular and it fills the pad in 2:30-3:30 minutes depending on how new the batteries are and altitude. You still have to add one or two puffs to top it off. Well worth it in my opinion.

Suntastics S charger 5 seems to pack the most performance for a lighter weight solar charger. It can be hung on the pack while hiking and has great reviews.
