The first time I tried this it didn't work at all. Same with the second attempt. Practice, practice, practice.
tried it on my Big Agnes with multiple kinds & sizes of trash bags & plastic grocery bags, works like a charm.

Hi - Ice Cream is hiking N on AT and made a trash compactor bag inflator. He is in Smokies someplace. Little challenging when it gets pin holes. But it works he says.

That's pretty cool...I have to admit that blowing that pad up everyday by mouth was like walking up a steep hill, pain in the neck but you just had to do it. My neo air xl took 40 breaths to fill in the beginning, by the time I was passed Harpers Ferry I was down to 25 breaths...still hated doing it!
Saves on a lot of moisture and bacteria building up in the pad.
Nice tip....will come in handy...thanks
I use the inflation stuff sack that came with the XTherm, and it works, but takes about 15 sacks full. I tried this with a cheap kitchen tall trash bag, and filled the XTherm with two bags. A bit awkward at first, but easier than the 15 stuff sacks to fill. More practice I'm sure will produce easier filling.
I will say, with the cheap trash bag, I managed to poke my thumb through it. It still worked, but not as effectively. I will try to get a compactor bag, never had the need for that before, the trash bags always worked fine for keeping things dry. Thanks lazarus for the link.

Since I use a compactor bag as a pack liner, I've tried the trick. It works.
Since my ProLite only takes 3-4 breaths to inflate if I don't start blowing for a few minutes after I open the valve, I find that blowing by mouth is easier for me.
