I have the pocket maps and the SOBO AT Guide. I'm trying to plan my mail drops from there but their information doesn't match up. One will say that a location has a post office while the other says it doesn't. Also, the addresses seem to be incomplete. When I look the addresses up on Google Maps, it will suggest a similar address. How do I plan my mail drops? Do I need yet ANOTHER book to do this?

Thank you, but more specifically we need to understand how to figure out the mileage between two places, as some locations do not include mileage from one point to the next.

Sweet! Do each of those locations have a mail drop available or do I just need to research which places have them?

A little research will give you the info you need. atdist.com gives you distances from point to point ALONG the Appalachian Trail. Post offices are in towns, which are generally, but not always, some distance off the trail. The AT guide will usually tell you how far the post office is from a given point, either the trail or a point in the town, and the maps generally have some sense of scale, so you can estimate the distances if they are not explicitly given.

Also, keep in mind that PO's have federal working hours and I always found it difficult to keep a schedule that would pop into town during their hours. I've read it's better to use hostels - Hotels when possible because they are open 24 - 7.
I've tried planning daily mileage was hardly ever able to keep to it for one reason or another so I'm going with hostels/hotels (where available) on my sobo thru attempt this year.
