Keys Gap/WV 9 area - Wildfire contained; workers may be seen and smoke may be visible

A wildland fire was reported near Westridge Hills (west of the A.T. near Keys Gap/WV 9) about 2 pm on Sunday. Many fire companies from both VA and WV responded. It was declared contained at about 7 pm. While hikers may see a short section of burned vegetation and while there may still be some limited fire fighting activities near the trail, it remains open.

I was walking SB from Harpers Ferry on Saturday about 2pm and didn't see it or smell it. Came back NB to Harpers Ferry and there was one or two guys on my left working with a chainsaw. I just assumed it was a controlled burn. It burned right up evenly to the edge of the footbed and no further. Always interesting to hear the rest of the information about it.
