While its not exactly a festival, if you are into music and are not familiar with Tanglewood (Lenox, MA) it's worn googling up.
While it my be best known for outdoor concerts by the likes of James Taylor and the BSO, they can surprise you from time to time-- and might even have a festival of sorts every now and then.
It is an iconic venue and a relatively easy hitch I would think.
Again, not a festival but here is another venue worth having on a music lover's radar-- tHe Flying Monkey in Plymouth, NH. Should be an easy hitch out of North Woodstock/Lincoln.

Acts like Hot Tuna (July) and Todd Rundgren (next month) and whole lot more I am not hip enough to to be familiar with-- all in I really cool restored movie theater in a small New England Small college town.
Highland games at Loon Mountain in Lincoln NH. It is a bit late in the season, mid-September. A little haggis and whiskey might be just the thing you need before that last push through the Whites and Maine!

Record store days This Saturday 4/18/15
if your hiking, type in the zipcode or your location to see who is participating, often they will have events, bands, give-a-ways, and selling limited edition releases...it's a good time.

April 23-26 is Merlefest in Wilkesboro, NC. Pretty good festival with heavy country, bluegrass, but a lot of variety. Wilkesboro is probably 1.5 hours from 19E, Mountain Harbour Hostel. One would need to hitch about 30 minutes past Boone, NC. It is a pretty large event for such a small town.

In the early Fall (late September during 2014) Hot Springs hosts the French Broad Brewfest. Unlimited sampling/quaffing and live music, hosted at the riverside campground, with camping free with the purchase of a ticket to the festival.
