Hello!
Is there any chance to get a hostel/accomodation near the trail between Glencliff and Hanover (NH/Vermont state line)?

What's the objective? it's a 40 - 50 mile stretch.

There is a hostel in Glencliff.

i don't know of anything in between -- other might. Air B and B, perhaps?

Thank you for your suggestions.
I know the hostel in Glencliff. But the objective is something "in between" on my way to Hanover.

Years ago a former governor of NH had a farm in that stretch and at least one hiker on Whiteblaze was invited by him to sleep in his barn. I didn't get any such invite, but his wife served me pie in the small restaurant they had.

I thought that that was cool.

I have not walked that stretch in a long time, but it is definitely in a very lightly populated stretch of trail (in the boonies as they say)-- not much of anything around at all.

Hi rickb,
that sounds promising ("bed" - but "pie" also :-) ). Do you have any idea of the name of the restaurant or the GPS coordinates?

My experience was a very long time ago, but I did a google on "Mt. Cube sugar House" and "Hiker" just now-- a bunch of hits came up-- more recent experiences than mine but still old.

Not sure if the restaraunt is even there anymore but it could still be a good detour based on what I just read. Probably the kind of place you check out without any expectations... Are maple sugar farms unique to America or do you have them in Germany, too?

Old Governor Thompson's farm no longer serves meals or lodges hikers, nor is it near the AT anymore. The trail was relocated a number of years ago from where it used to come down off Mt Cube into their back yard.

There is a really nice hostel in Etna. Tigger's Tree House. http://www.wikitrail.org/features/view/at/25302/tiggers-treehouse-hostel

I have zero personal knowledge of the current situation at Mt Cube Sugar House and farm, but you can find reports like this one on line:
