So what's the right to address a general delivery package?

If you dig into the .gov info you'll find they ask you to use the -9999 suffix for the zip code, but it really is as simple as Walkintom says.

Remember that po will hold general delivery mail up to 30 days, but dont always hold general delivery packages very long. Always good to add an expected pickup date . POs in very high use areas have returned hikers packages after as little as 7 days.

Always call each PO and get specific instructions from them if you want to insure it goes smoothly.

In addition, mark on the package, "Hold for AT (thru) hiker". Trail PO's are usually very accommodating.

May want to add "PLEASE" in front of any requests. May hit the right person at the right time to add some extra time to the request.
