3068530686 Just for reference (I cant answer whether this will work for you), here is a 5.5 x 9 Borah Gear Sil Nylon Tarp. I think the price was $55.00. I have used it in rain and snow (neither extreme conditions). These are the only pictures I have on my work computer and the book of face with more pictures is blocked. Hope this helps with size references.

I couldnt send these via PM for some reason. Here you go:

1. Roan Highlands High A-Frame (May 2014)
2. Pine Furnace State Park with Snow- Everything with snow was outside tarp at night. I was dry as a bone (Nov 2014)
3. Tarp Pitched Low #1
4. Tarp Pitched Low #2
5. Tarp Pitched Low #3

I just sent an order off to BearPaw Wilderness for a cuben 8x10 tarp. I'll let you know how it goes once it arrives.

8x10', .74 cuben was $265

http://www.bearpawwd.com/tarps/tarps_canopies.php

After conversing with the owner over email he said the price of cuben has gone up again and he's going to have to raise his rates soon, so if you're interested I'd jump on it.

I will say that for me, it's worth it to finally upgrade my tarp. I'm currently using a tarp that weighs 39 ounces, and while it was a fantastic tarp to learn the ropes with, I can't wait to (not) feel what an 8.5 ounce tarp feels like in my pack.

As others have commented in other threads, I think you've got the right idea. Getting a cheaper tarp and giving it a shot will allow you to get the idea down before dropping money on something UL like the cuben.

Like I said, I've tarped and bivy'd enough with older, heavier, bomber-proof military (heavy) stuff that now that I have the means and a system down I'm *just* plunking down the cash for a nice tarp and civy bivy (MLD super light).

Your plan is sound. Go for it!
