Head-start from ny/ct north

On the ATC website section, "when and where to start", there's a flip-flop agenda of "Head Start from NY/CT Border - North" (https://www.appalachiantrail.org/hiking/thru-section-hiking/when-where-to-start)

I had a false start earlier this spring where I hiked from Springer to Fontana Dam, and I currently live in Maine. After considering my options, and taking suggestions from the forums, this looks like a pretty reasonable option for me.

Does anyone have any suggestions for this route? Gear, modifications, etc.?
