Jack, Hope your B-Day was a great one! I also want to thank you for the help you provided the hikers (ferry, resupply store, lodging) while I dealt with a family emergency this past September. That's what I love about you Jack, you have always stepped forward to help someone in need. Life is just one more mile to go...everyday! Steve

The man still walks,
Miles short and long.
The man still walks.
With a sip from a plastic bottle,
he has the ability to put his hiking in high throttle.
The man still walks.
With bruised ankels and knees,
he will ask for trail magic with a please.
While he hangs out in 5 ole nugget alley,
I hope he gets laid by the pretty girl named sally.
The man still walks.
He hands me coupons, is he cheap?
All the farmers herd AWAY their sheep.
For the good friend that he is,
Happy f'en birthday, Mr. Jack Tarlin!

The Goat-"Jack, why are those farmers herding away their sheep?" Is it because Jack's favorite song is: "I only have eyes for ewe"?:D Happy b-day Jack.

Many thanx to one and all for the very kind greetings.....it is now the 13th and my birthday is mercifully over. And it was a good one: A beautiful fall day here in Hanover, a good time to cut and stack some wood. Then a short walk in the forest, and a half-day at work. My landlord, good-friend, and base-camp go-to guy for ten tears, Dave V., took me out to dinner at Five-Olde, which, for those of you who don't know, serves great food and is the most hiker-friendly place in town. Blister showed up after work, and the evening got very jolly indeed. Got messages from Janet and Jester, some very nice gifts, mostly books, and a surprise phone call during dinner from somewhere south of Dallas, from Mountain Dew, who I also discovered had left a credit card number with Gordy at the bar, so he in effect took care of my bar tab (well, most of it) from several thousand miles away, which I thought was pretty cool. All in all, a wonderful evening, and we couldn't have been THAT bad as I was up and functioning, sort of, before seven today.
Ah, the recuperative powers of youth....
In any case, thanx again for all the greetings, and I hope to see some of you guys in a few weeks for our annual Trashgiving fest, the details of which are found elsewhere on Whiteblaze, I think in the "Hiker Get-togethers section.
We're starting to get some RSVP's and requests for directions, so it looks like it's going to be quite the weekend.

Sorry I missed it yesterday, so late happy birthday. In a near coincidence, my oldest son's birthday is today, the 13th. Good thing we waited a day :D

Hey Jack... I know I left a tab at the bar for you, but when i just got the credit card receit it showed drink for drink what you bought on my dime. Jack oh Jack... A "Shirley Temple" ??? then you followed that up with a Roy Rogers a half hour later. Geez...what a pansy. To add to the humiliation I also see where you had three buttery nipple shots and two mudslide martinis.
What's next ....You gonna wear a pink bandage around that 1952 left knee of yours ?

Damn, Dew, what a funny guy!!
Sure hope you're laughing in a few months when you realize we retained your credit card number....it ought to come in handy this winter!
Regards, and welcome back to WB.
