Hi there fellow hikers. So I need some help. I have a wonderful pair of summer Montrails but last year the black tread started to become seperated from the gray undersole. hat are your recommendations? They will get wet, take abuse, and need to hold up. They are 8 years old but I/ve been out of action for 2 years due to major right quad rupture. They are my favorite hiking boots and I want to save the old gals!
Thanks,
John

Not likely worth the expense, IMO. I don't know about the 8 year old Montrails, but current Montrails (like virtually every light hiking shoe) have midsoles that are likely worn out (or close to it) if you have worn out the outsoles. While that may not be visible, it truly degrades the performance of the shoe.

Unless they can be resoled or sewn...iffy repair. If they are the type that is press molded with rap around rand, could try
"shoe-goo" it's pretty tenacious.

Call the folks at Dave Page, Cobbler. Ask if the boots can be resoled.
