I've been sitting here going over the amazing lists of favorite books that folks have listed in the favorite book thread. WOW! Some great stuff! I've added lots of books to my "must read" list.
I was thinking (I know, hard to believe!) that a thread of favorite authors would be beneficial and way, way cool!

So, top 10 favorite authors (modern)

John Steinbeck ( what a suprise!)

Louis L'amour (great storyteller)

Farley Mowatt (funny dude)

Pat McManus (another funny dude)

David and Leigh Eddings (excellent fantasy)

Orson Scott Card (seriously good Sci-Fi)

James Herriot (just fun reading)

Colin Fletcher (the definitive hiking guru)

Dick Francis (great mystery writer)

Tony Hillerman (another great mystery writer)

And I'll throw Dean Koontz out there too just for luck (i know, thats 11. i can count that high!):p

Basically the entire beat generation. Did you know when Kerouac wrote "on the rode" he wrote it on one continuous sheet of paper? When he turned it in to be published it was over 120 feet long. Just one of those zany tidbits and it is all about the stream of consciousness baby!
