Tomorrow morning my husband and I will put on our packs and climb Roan Mountain.
About five years ago we did our first AT section hike.
Two weeks ago we hiked northern Virginia to Harpers Ferry and put our official portraits in the official ATC record book.
Tomorrow we reach our halfway point at the Roan High Knob Shelter - give or take a few hundred yards.
Little by little, section by section, we've watched our percent increase, currently:

You have hiked 1089.0 out of 2189.2 miles (49.7%).

At the shelter we'll open a cool bottle of sparkling grape juice, eat some treats, take several selfies, admire the rhododendron,
and perhaps ponder for a bit about all the miles we've covered, and all the miles that lie ahead.

Then I suppose we'll load up and keep walking.

I have two questions:

1. What things would you suggest to celebrate our halfway point?

2. Now that we've gone halfway, it's all downhill from here, right?

In Lurkerville and Damascus they drink Moonshine, I believe to celebrate making it halfway through the day- but should be good for this celebration too.

If you insist in no booze- how about a half gallon challenge.

Usually it's all downhill spins after the 24 in 24 challenge if you're up for that?

Either way- Congrats!
:clap

I'm stupid enough without Tennessee Moonshine. I figure I'll hold onto the brain cells I've got.

Keeps a record of your progress on that browser/computer. I use Google Chrome to keep up with the sections I've done. I use Internet Explorer to keep up with the stuff I haven't done. Great little easy-to-use calculator.

I'll be awake half the night trying to come up with a suitable response. Now I'll never get any sleep!

Don't refresh him too hard, he's got some walking to do once you straighten him out.

If you want to do it right you should each eat a 1/2 gallon tub of ice cream!!!

Went out to do some early morning chores, and guess what, the MOON was SHINING on my hill. That, Mister Bill, is pure moonshine, the best kind!

I'm not to far ahead of you in my section hiking adventure (a little over 1,300 miles since the end of '07). I have to say that I don't remember celebrating the halfway point mileage-wise in my hike...I guess I should have...oh well. If I were to do it again and celebrate it it'd be with a nice small glass of a good bourbon or scotch.

As for #2, I don't know where you've hiked yet but I made my first foray into NH last year and no...it's definitely NOT all downhill from here :D

You are correct indeed; well done young lady.
