Sitting on conference calls all day makes one pine for the trail. Trail Journals helps fill the gaps. I generally chose people who have the ability to put a story together, give you more than just "I hiked from point A to point B, can string sentences together (and use punctuation and verbs and vowels and the occasional paragraph) and post regularly (ideally daily).

Werewolf - http://trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=483740

Rocky Mountain High (sporadic posts, but enjoyable) - http://trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?trailname=17598
Catnapper (thought he was all done when he injured his foot, but he got back in the game) - http://trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?trailname=18122
Red Panda (this is a writer who gives you not only a sense of the trail, but the mental journey as well from the perspective of a 26 yr old woman. This may be my favorite. Could also be posted under "Quirky" below.) - http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=499303

Pairs - hiking partners.

Quirky - I'm never quite sure where this is going, but I'm enjoying the ride. (or walk, as the case may be). What attracted me to this journal initially was his initial 6 mile per day pace. Stop by and give this guy some encouragement. I think he's going to make though it always seems tenuous.

Magician - http://trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=487427

Aborted - The last entry on these is "Tomorrow I leave for the trail!" I make up stories about what may have befallen these guys.

Thanks. These are great additions. I've been following Airlock for a while, she's great. You may also like Yoda who was her hiking partner for a while: http://5millionstepswithkatie.blogspot.com/

dbright, I don't know why, but I find that journal tedious. All you get is "we walked today" sort of thing. They have the makings of a really interesting journal with such diverse points of view in the group.

My son is currently thru hiking the trail . his start date was May 2 - he is currently around mile marker 574. He is periodically posting videos of his hike when he has an opportunity in town to upload them on youtube. His youtube account name is gaiterat. If you are interested you can do a search for gaiterat on youtube. I am sure Grant would appreciate comments from my fellow whiteblazers

Easily the the most interesting journal I have seen so far this year is Wired's journal of her hike of the Hayduke Trail. If you are not familiar with this trail it is about 800 miles long and travels thru 6 national parks in Utah and AZ (Arches, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon as well as the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument and various wilderness areas). The Hayduke is a top candidate for the most scenic long hike in the US as well as the for the most technically difficult. Getting down cliffs, huge water carries, long resupplies, quicksand, mostly unmarked, lots of walking in narrow canyons down streams, the most difficult trail in the Grand Canyon, you name it. It is on my list.

Check out her journal here and her pictures which are not to be missed.

Wired hiked much of her hike with Katherine Cook who also has a great journal and also fantastic pics. Found here:
