Montbell Thermawrap

I'm looking for some light weight insulation, and found Montbell's thermawraop synthetic insulated clothing. The vest seems so thin that I doubt if it will be of any use. :-? The good part is the vest weighs just 5 oz. ANy experience or alternates?

I love my thermo-wrap jacket...down right hot...twice as light as 200 wgt fleece, warmer too.

you will be remiss if you dont consider what Montbell is doing in their synthetic insulations. I promise you will be very surprised at the amount of heat it can retain. So much in fact that I incorporated the original Thermawrap jacket into my sleep system to decrease the amount of 'bag' i have to carry. I got a pair of pants from Japan when they werent available in the US to complete the system...good stuff and of high quality. Th parka i wore in is in the gunmetal color----dont get it, a mistake i made, its very shiny, might fit in better in Times Square

Montbell is one of the best firms out there for light and fast stuff, it's practically a corporate obsession. They were doing ultralight before pretty much anyone else, and there stuff is tough as well. You won't be sorry.

I agree, you won't be sorry if you get the Thermawrap. When I first got mine, I put it on the scales, to verify their claim that it's as light as a T-shirt...and it is. But when I put it on, I thought, I've been ripped off...its as thin as a t-shirt, too! But in fact I routinely use it here in Alaska, over just a base layer or 2, down to the teens...it is VERY windproof, very warm. I like mine a lot...I don't much care for the Sunset Orange color I got, I've always liked bright colors on my gear, but I think the black or gray would be better in the long run. Also, their new hooded model, at about 12 oz, looks like it would be nice for colder weather. Bill

I can go to the 40s at rest easily with the vest. That's assuming pants, hat, t-shirt, ls-shirt, windshirt, and gloves. The jacket will be much warmer for not much more weight.

why not carry the vest too? i've always carried a 'sleep vest', a vest i doubly wrap to gaurantee it is kept dry to sleep in, since a vest is so good at keeping the core warm. for years i carried a patagonia puffball but now its the thermawrap....i havent used it with the parka but i'm thinking it is a superwarm combo.

I just hate they don't make sizes for us big guys,,,, their biggest is XL, & that's just too tight for this XXL Big Dawg. :(

i got the jacket about 2 yrs ago and the pants about 3months ago. as good as the jacket which is awesome!
