Road construction on VA 55 involves replacement of small bridge west of the A.T. crossing of 55 (toward Linden, 0.6 east of I-66 exit 13). Rte. 55 will be closed June 22-26 while work is done; during this time the VA 725 trailhead and VA 55 A.T. crossing will be inaccessible from the west (Linden), and Linden will be inaccessible from the A.T. via Rt. 55. Hikers can access to the Linden Post Office via Rte. 638, 1.9 miles south along the A.T from Rt. 55. There is no parking at VA 638. The VA 725 trailhead can be accessed from the east by taking I-66 east to Markham (exit 18) and traveling west on 55.

This area is a little confusing as there is no trailhead on 55; there is a nice gravel parking area on a perpendicular road (VA 725) that starts at 55 and heads north. The A.T. follows VA 725 for a tenth of a mile or so where it goes underneath I-66, which parallels 55.

Thanks to Mike "Grateful Greenpeace Guy" Evans; Jon Rindt, PATC; and Tom Johnson, PATC/A.T. Museum for this information.
