For those of you who aren't from Colorado, keep an eye out for beetle kill and other dead trees when setting up camp every night this year. There are probably 50-100 miles of beetle kill along the CT (Breck area, south of I-50, San Juan's, etc.) and camping amidst the dead trees should be a show stopper. Last year, I had a couple trees fall over near me during the night when the t-storms came through. Make sure that no dead tree can fall in your campsite when setting up camp. Ron :)

Great advice to post Ron! Having been living and hiking in Colorado for 9 years now I can attest to this advice. It's something folks coming in from outside the Rockies might tend to overlook.

Good call. The damage of the mountain pine beetle in western Montana has been extreme.

That's a swath of dead trees infested with pine beetle in Montana.

Unfortunately, the San Juan Mountains are now being ravished by the Spruce beetle. It's ugly! Ron
