View Full Version : Cell service on the CT?
For anyone that has hiked the CT, what is AT&T cell service like out on the trail?

Sparse at best! There were a few areas where I was pretty much in the middle of nowhere and did get a weak signal. Just don't count on it. There were lots of long stretches with no service. Ron :)

I found that cell service on the north half of the trail was pretty good. Most of the time you don't have service, but if you are thinking ahead a little, you can usually find some place on the northern section every day where there is service (ie, when you are hiking out of Kenosha Pass, at a certain point there's a nice overlook where you can see the valley below and the highway...this is the exact type of place where you'll have cell service. Same thing with the fire hall in segment 2).
The southern half (ie, south of Salida) has very spotty cell service. There are few population centres and few major highways, so there probably aren't many cell towers. My recollection is that I went three or four days at a time without observing an obvious place where there would be service (that doesn't mean there wasn't any service...just that the topography and lack of proximity to highways never gave me any reason to bother checking).

For the first time, I did actually have AT&T service (barely) at the CT Yurt (22-8.7) this week. Ron
