Starting where?

You should be past most of black fly season in Maine. The skeeters might be out in force, I'd bring a head net. Early to mid July is a fine time to start a sobo hike.

I just came back from a jaunt in the 100 Mile Wilderness and the mosquitos were, for the most part, out in force. Most likely due to the boggy nature of the majority of the trail right now, there is *plenty* of water out there on the trail.

Bring Deet and a head net and go for it. The bugs are out and they have friends!
