How are the black flies, 'squitos & anything else I shld be brought up to speed on?.........

You should be past most of black fly season in Maine. The skeeters might be out in force, I'd bring a head net. Early to mid July is a fine time to start a sobo hike.

i started june 29th one year. the black flies were gone. the mosquitos were horrendous. i thought head nets were uncool looking. i woulda paid big money for one

I just came back from a jaunt in the 100 Mile Wilderness and the mosquitos were, for the most part, out in force. Most likely due to the boggy nature of the majority of the trail right now, there is *plenty* of water out there on the trail.

Last week there were some black flies, mosquitoes and noseeums there.

Bring Deet and a head net and go for it. The bugs are out and they have friends!
