Quebec or now Belle Isle, Labrador, so there is an opportunity to enter and exit Canada. If you don't already have a passport and don't need international air travel documents, check out a passport card (http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/english/passports/information/card.html). Its wallet size so lighter, and also cheaper than a passport.

As I understand this walk, it is an "unofficial" trail that has hundreds of road miles coupled with ferry passages that starts in Key West, Florida Dry and ends at Cape Raven in Newfoundland, Canada. You'll need the passport.
