I would contact Bluff Mountain Outfitters in Hot Springs for shuttle information.
I'm envious. I wish I had the time to take one or more of my grandkids on a similar hike.
Good luck & have fun!

I did this section just last week. I used the folks at Bluff Mountain for the shuttle. I too started late in the day and camped at a site 7.5 miles from Davenport Gap. Although the AT guide indicated water at this campsite I saw none (maybe I was at the wrong site). Wasn't a problem since I had loaded up with water at Painter Branch. Several tent sites at Painter Branch which is 4.7 miles from Davenport Gap.

Water for this section was ample, except for the water supply at Deer Park shelter was basically non existent.

Have fun.

On the north end of Max Patch just as you enter the woods there is a place big enough for several tents. You can grab water on the south end.

hit and miss on the cell service. You should be able to send out a text at least every few hours.

Forgot to ask ....bugs? I've never had issue with them in nc/tn but normally don't hike in the summer.... I treat our clothes with permethrin but rarely carry bug spray..Adams flea off on dog before we head out.....

I had no problems with bugs. Only spider webs on the trail early in the morning. I treated clothes with permethrin and had no ticks.

Also, I don't know about the legality of tenting on Max Patch but did see a couple of tents there as I passed by.

Thanks all for input....great trip...we really enjoyed it!!! Damn it was hot and snakes were out! I had to move two timber rattlers off the trail! They were not happy!!! Scared the ship out of us...dog included! The dog now stays behind us while hiking!! I now truly see why I like a Fully enclosed shelter! Here are a few pics from the trip.

Thanks for sharing the pictures. I love the sunset on Max Patch. I too just completed the same trip a few weeks ago. We didn't get any snake visits. I imagine that stopped you in your track pretty quick!
