I'm trying to help outfit my brother for hiking, but he's on a pretty tight budget, so I'm looking to help him find the big items on the cheap. I hope it's obvious, but I'm not asking anyone to sell anything for less than a fair price. I'm just trying to help my brother minimize costs as much as possible. I already gave him my old sleeping pad because I discovered I prefer foam to inflatable, but he still needs a pack, a bag, and a tent. He's a size M/L on the pack. For the tent, he'll likely follow my lead and get a Eureka Solitaire, but if there's a better deal to be had, that would be great. Thanks for any help anyone might be able to provide.

Thanks for the offer, but that's a bit out of his price range. However, if nothing else comes along, I might consider buying it for myself and giving him my Solitaire.

The HS Lightning 30 is a little small for what we'll be doing, but the title of your listing mentions two packs. What about the Jam 50?

Here is a Mountain Hardwear PCT1 available on EBay for $75 with "Buy It Now" and free shipping. There's already a few bids but it's not met the reserve.

What are your budget constraints? What kind and size tent are you looking for? Same for the sleeping bag and pack?

This tent might be a good option for the price.

Also relatively local so perhaps shipping costs could be avoided, I've got an LL Bean one-man tent and sleeping bag perfect for backpacking available.

Thanks for the heads up, that does seem like a good deal.

Wow, that's a pretty good deal. I don't usually shop at REI since there's an EMS much closer to me, but I will definitely check out their online deals.

That does sound like a good price. Might get that for myself.
