After hiking Clendenin Branch, we set off to the impressive old growth forest of Lower Jerry Run Natural Area. There are hemlocks 120 feet tall and over 300 years old, as well as old growth white pine, maple, and oak. We were all impressed by the large trees and the isolation of the forest. It had a true wilderness feel with no man-made noises. We could hear a deer snorting at us from across the glen, we were in its territory and it seemed the deer was old and wizened like the trees. A truly beautiful place that few see.
