Hello! I am planning a section hike for this Sept from Williamstown -> Rt 4 (my last section to complete!) and am researching modes of transport south to the beginning of the trail. I know I can cobble together a few different busses to get there but hoping to find a trail angel/shuttle that might get me there more quickly as I plan to do 14 miles that day or thereabouts. Any/all suggestions MUCH appreciated! In particular, contact info for Steve LaBombard? I have found many reverences to him but no contact info.

But you'll need to read the schedules carefully

First, Rutland to Manchester

Second, Manchester to Bennington via the Orange Line

Third, Bennington to Williamstown via the Purple Line

Also, you can get from the Inn at Long Lane into Rutland by the Diamond Express Bus

If you want to ride from the Inn into Rutland, do NOT repeat my mistake!!

Thanks - yep have taken the bus from Rutland north before - pretty straightforward. Thanks for taking the time to put together the organized info. Still hoping to get the earliest start possible on the trail that day.

Steve is a trail angel but that would be a long haul for him.

The ATC shuttle list has several options. Dave Ackerson and Dot McDonald on that list are active in the area. Guessing that will cost $100+ for 100+ miles one way, so the bus options are a great deal.

Check current bus schedules, but if I recall correctly the last bus leaving Bennington to Wtown leaves kinda early but if you miss that transfer and don't object to hitch hiking, don't sweat it much. I've done that hitch both north and south on Rt 7 between those two towns several times on AT/LT hikes. I always received rather quick rides by standing hitching along Rt 7 or asking for rides in the vicinity of Rt 7 and RT 9 in Bton going south. And, in Wtown near the junction of Rt 7 and Rt 2 going north.

Thanks All - after careful consideration, I think I'm going to leave my van further south so I don't have quite so far to shuttle to start my hike. Appreciate all the suggestions!
