I'll be hiking thru the GSM next month and was wondering what the rules are for hammock use?

It boils down to this, at backcountry campsites you can use a hammock. At shelter sites you cannot use a hammock unless the shelter is full, and of course you have a reservation. But even if the shelter is full you cannot attach the hammock to the shelter itself period, which is a no-brainer rule, but unfortunately there are people out there that don't have brains :)
