What's your thoughts on my setup? I modified a heat shield from another cooking set.

tfaris, your set up looks good but please be careful with any set up which might trap heat at the base. The instructions that come with canister stove states that they are not to be used with a windscreen. It is rare but the canisters can be made to explode from trapped heat. Please be careful.

I have heard this here, but never have seen such instructions. What stove or stoves has this warning?

Its not tall enough to shield the entire flame from wind, so what is it for?

Looks like it will work, it will shield the wind from the intake of air/mixing valve in the stem, and the pot will shield the wind from above with the gap giving enough space for the exhausted gases.

Maybe it would work.Maybe it won't blow up and get you in a lawsuit..........

I've built wind screens to try and heat up the canister on my JetBoil so it would work better in cold weather. I couldn't even get it warm. I think this is a case calling for reasonable prudence not absolute fear driven avoidance. I think the wind screen shown is from Optimus and if you look, you'll see it shields the canister from the heat above. I does look a bit short for the stove shown.

I used this part:

http://www.optimusstoves.com/usen/optimus-products/products/katadynshopconnect/optimus-accessories/optimus-clip-on-windschutz/

And trimmed it about 1/4" to allow my cooking set:

The windshield fits into the cooking set without taking up additional space.

The fuel canister support is:

My first thought is 'No one makes these, there must be a reason.'

This is a safe and good setup. It's just the Optimus windshield chopped off a bit.

It would have been more effective if left taller so that the hot air and flame were not in contact with outside air and wind, but considering that not all cookware fits inside of its radius I understand your mod.

Since it is made by the manufacturer for their own product you are good to go.I retract my original statement as it initially appeared you had concocted something on your own.Looks like you would be better served with the full size model though.

I just made one easily from 2 yummy empty Sierra Nevada cans...im not the diy type but it was very easy. YouTube "Colorado camper". I modified lil bit so it hooks on pot supports on my SP lite max stove...similar to one muddy made..functionality to be determined on my jmt hike in 3 weeks...worst cast I toss in recycle at T meadows..I'll post pic later. Best part about it was emptying the cans![emoji482]
