No wonder he was carrying 100 pounds: he was buying water!! It's the drought. I've bought water on the PCT (at Echo Lake). They have a big sign that they no longer have free purified drinking water available, but water is available for purchase. This isn't all that weird in California, right now.

I thought about filtering the water from the lake, but the boat marina is right there and didn't really want to drink filtered outboard motor fuel with my water. :)
