View Full Version : Gear Suggestion - Pouch for my Shoulder Strap

On my Gregory Pack I have a small attachment strip high on my shoulder straps. Would love some kind of pouch that could attach along the strap and be out of the way of swinging arms, but big enough to carry a couple of items I would like to be able to get to quickly while hiking, and weather resistant. I'm guessing something about 4 inches X 6 inches. Anyone use anything like this, my trip to REI did not turn up anything for strap attachments. Any suggestions or what you use? My waist straps have pockets that are just mesh and about the size for 1 cliff bar each.

I wanted to have a camera holster mounted on my pack strap for quick access, and so I bought a generic holster and mounted it on my backpack strap using velcro.

Gossamer Gear has a padded pouch that attaches to the shoulder strap with Velcro that looks like it might have a little added protection for smart phones, etc.

FWIW: I often mount water bottles on my pack straps with nothing more than a couple tied loops of elastic cord attached to hold the top and bottom of whatever I am carrying for a water bottle at the time. I've also made some simple custom pockets to precisely fit my cell phone or GPS using duck tape with similar construction techniques to any of the many duck tape wallets out there. I also made a surprisingly functional duck tape strap map case based on a toilet paper tube that holds a wide variety of maps rolled up on my shoulder strap.
Luke's ultralight and Mountain Laurel designs have some options as well.
