What is on your Christmas list for Santa this year? As I've been especialy good this year, I asked for a Western Mountaineering down vest.:clap

Well ...I've got most everything I could ever want, but a set of airplane tickets to some place warm where there's a good trail would be a nice treat come January.

A leave of abscence from work so I can do the CDT without the transition I had when I finsihed the PCT. :)

True story...

After finishing the Colorado Trail last year, one of the owners of the company (cool guy..he likes the Red Sox, is from Rhode Island originally and we both have fondness for coffee milk..what is not to like ? :) )talked to me at lunch one Frinday and said "You've done the Appalachian Trail...right?"
ME: Yep
OWNER: And you hiked the west coast a couple of years ago...
ME: Basically right...
OWNER: You've walked across Colorado...but I understand there's a route through the whole length of the Rockies...
ME: Er....yeah.. (said slighlty cautious)
OWNER: You'll just have to do it someday, then. (Said with a smile on his face).

Here's hoping Santa, in the guise of someone who is about 40 years old, gets me a LOA.

:)

The other gift I always wanted was Santa's naughty girls list...

Alas, there is a long wait for that item.

TIME, sweet TIME. Time to hike more often and longer; yes, of course. Time also to love my family more completely, to track down and renew old friendships, build deeper new friendships, tell old stories with my parents, sing in the church choir, start brewing homemade beer again... escape this cursed tyranny of the urgent. Oh okay-for justusryans sake I'll take a Shires tarptent as well!

I got a really nice, light, and compact Burris 20x spotting scope free last year with my rifle scope. Fits nice on an ultralight Ultrapod.

Lookin' to sell?

My Christmas Wish List:

1) To see Rock stay stateside.

2) To see BJ & WD sit down and eat a meal together as friends. (Freshly served, not leftovers)

3) For LW to run, and win, the Boston Marathon

4) For Miss Janet to win the lotto, and open a luxury hostel, complete with hot tubs, in Erwin.

5) For Bob Peoples to have so many show up for Hardcore that he has to turn some away.

6) For the ATC to reroute the AT around that galldurn Mahoosuc Notch

7) For Jaybird to have the ability and means to retire, and join Model T on his upcoming thruhike.

8) For all hikers to join the ATC and/or ALDHA.

A physique like Brad Pitt's and a girlfriend like Angelina Jolie. OK, OK, back to reality. Having more time to spend with and a greater appreciation for the people who mean the most to me is all I can really ask for. All the other stuff is just window dressing anyway. (Not that I'd turn any of it down if it happened to show up under the tree, mind you.)

I was thinking sherpas, but if we went for the anti-gravity gear, we wouldn't have additional mouths to feed.

Wouldn't you be out a job then?
I would be in the job keeping it. Peace on earth wouldn't be free.

Actually I would consider it a "condition of the battlefield" of course that is deep thinking in a tactical sense, probably went over the heads of most of y'all, but at least I got a good chuckle out of it.

Yup. And the reason why peace cannot keep itself was ironically if not brilliantly demonstrated by the original questioner. Some jackass would always come along to wreck it. Even on a message board.

I think the problem is that the key element to the whole thing is a micro-pourous multi-layered ceramic membrane. (ok that sounds pretty jargony, but that's the best way I know how to describe it) this is technology that has just been invented. I think there are other simpler rigs being tried for backpacking than the one pictured in the linked article. I'll try and dig around for the original article i read on it...
