2nd week in april 2016 GA section

My husband and I are doing it SOBO from Deep Gap starting the 3rd week in May (the 20th)

You don't need to get a group together. A group of hundreds will be waiting for you.

I have done a southbound section hike the past 3 years on the NC/GA AT during early April. It is out of control. 100s of hikers. The shelters will be packed beyond belief. It is great if you want to meet a bunch of NOBO thru-hikers. Not so good if you want a peaceful hike. Some days I would get tired a talking to hikers. So many would pass me by. The NC crowd is much tamer than the GA crowd. Many of the hard core partiers drop out in GA. But GA is definitely entertaining even if you don't partake. Lots of strong personalities out on the trail. Bottom line, the farther north you begin your hike the more serious the NOBO hiker you will meet. And the more peaceful your nights will be if camping near the shelters.

Go last wk april/ first wk may nobo . its not bad at all, and spring is popping. You will be 1-2 wk behind the tail of the bubnle
