It's a well made, fairly light <1 lb down parka filled with ~700 fill down. It has a great hood, fits snugly over a midlayer, has decent pockets, and seems weel designed. Not a super ultralight high end jacket, but a solid contender for a winter parka for the backcountry in NC, VA, and GA. At $265 normal price, it's a decent deal. At the sale price of $172 (shadow gray, women's medium) it's a great deal -- and Backcountry is offering an additional 20% off sale prices for a very limited time. We paid less than $140 for this jacket, which is a steal.
Depending on one's individual comfort with the cold, this would be an ideal puffy jacket for an early AT northbound start.
