View Full Version : Horn Mountain picnic area reclamation.

After visiting the site a few weeks ago, I decided that it was time to do something. My family and I went up on Sunday 9/27 and started the process of cleaning up the site. So far we have 95% of the grass knocked down and will continue to work at it regularly. I do plan on finding and clearing the original trail from the Pinhoti. Enjoy.

good work Waterman ! My girlfriend and I did a clear up a few years ago with a DR mower and weedeater. I happened to rain on us which made it nice for me and cold for her. We also cleared out a path toward the Pinhoti, but there needs to be some blazes on the trees to make it more permanent. What is the official side trail color supposed to be with the Pinhoti's sky blue anyway?

We mowed it in June 2013, going up a day early before an AHTS Sat workday on Rebecca Mtn section.

From what I can recall, there were white blazes at one time.

Thanks. I'm waiting to hear back from the FS archaeologist about the courthouses. Trying to formulate a plan to replace the concrete benches that are missing also. It'll be a lot of work but worthwhile I think.

Thanks for all the work you did there.
That area gets neglected most of the time as trail maintainers go through on the Pinhoti.
The before and after pics detail the amount of work involved, it should remain clear now until the spring growth starts.
