Here is the message that the National Park Service and ATC have issued for the A.T.:

Weather Alert: Hikers are encouraged to closely monitor the weather and prepare for or modify their plans to avoid hazardous conditions by staying off the Trail or seeking shelter in towns. Heavy rains are expected to cause localized flooding, especially along the southern half of the Trail, but the path of the storm track may change. Streams may become too hazardous to safely cross. (For tips click here (http://www.appalachiantrail.org/docs/default-source/default-document-library/safety-tips-for-fording-streams-and-rivers.pdf?sfvrsn=0).) In areas where soils are saturated from recent rains trees may be uprooted by moderate winds.

If thru-hikers need to take an alternate route due to hazardous conditions they will still be recognized as 2,000-milers.
To report hazardous conditions, please email [email protected].

Updates will be posted at www.appalachiantrail.org/updates.
