I am hiking the AT in MD on Columbus Day weekend. I know the Annapolis rock section is extremely crowded. Any comments on the other sections in MD and conditions for camping at shelters would be very helpful. Also given the heavy rains last weekend I assume finding sources of water wont be difficult, am I right about that?

The water sources should be fine. Not sure on your mileage but the entire section is 4X miles so you may be able to do the whole thing in one long weekend. Maybe start at Wolfesville Road and head south ending in Harpers Ferry. This would include passing through Annapolis Rocks, black rock, the state park, and the Washington Monumnet.

I'd skip Pine Knob Shelter. Leaky roof this past July, and very close to I-70. Antietam not toonice either, pretty much right next to a busy park. Tumbling Run shelters are probably the most posh. A regular PATC palace. David Lesser, a long down hill hike to water.
