Has anyone found/seen a wall size (preferably 3ft x 4ft or bigger) map of the US with all 408 National Park sites marked? I've been collecting lapel pins for a number of years every time I go to a park. I'd like to do the "thumb tack on a map" thing with them.

The first requirement would obviously be to have all of the sites marked. Then sufficient scale to actually be able to read it. A raised topo map would be even more awesomer. Printed topo lines would be ok but I'm guessing that I'm not going to find one with topo lines at all. Anyone with a 3D printer bored?:D

This page has links to pdf files for maps if you want to print your own.

http://www.nps.gov/hfc/cfm/carto-detail.cfm?Alpha=nps

Here for example is the deluxe map with shaded relief from the "National Park System Map and Guide" brochure.
(73.1 MB) http://www.nps.gov/hfc/carto/PDF/NPSmap2.pdf

The low-res screen shot of it looks like this:
32203

Or there is this deluxe map with shaded relief of the National Park System suitable for large wall map displays.
(161.7 MB) http://www.nps.gov/hfc/carto/PDF/NPSmap1.pdf

It would seem to be pretty much the same one they are selling here.

https://bookstore.gpo.gov/products/sku/024-005-01274-5

"Handsome color map showing the locations of parks in National Park System; suitable for large wall map displays. Developed by the Publications Office at Harpers Ferry Center in response to the high volume of requests for an oversized version of the map of the NPS system found in the current NPS map and guide unigrid brochure, the map shows all 392 authorized units of the park system. It measures 39 by 29 inches and is of display quality."

Now why didn't this show up when I did a search of my username as having a reply? Grrr.

I'll check the links in a second. Thanks for posting. Too bad I don't think we have a plotter at work.

$5.50 is pretty cheap for a color map that size (39x29). Printing it a Staples or similar would cost $30.

Thank you! PDF saved. Places names I have visited highlighted with Acrobat Text Highlighting tool. Very cool indeed!
I have not visited very many National Parks, Monuments, Battlefields, etc. However, I enjoyed everyone.
Some that I have visited have been a bit obscure, like Little Bighorn Battlefield-twice! I love that place.
By the way, the resolution of the PDF should allow wall size reproduction. I just need to charm my friend with a wide format printer into making a copy for me.

Tell me about it!!!! It's too small tho. The 50" x 38" is where it's at. The $50 one is using photo paper (high gross). Pretty sure that one ^ is regular paper.

Um, how the hell is Little Bighorn Battlefield obscure (other than the oxymoron name)? It was fairly significant in my history books. Or maybe I was just awake that day. Nah, it was a Discovery Channel that I'm remembering (remember it from the history books too). Someone went out with the story as told, a metal detector, and surveying gear. Everyone should know that Custer got his ass kicked but the show brought to light how badly he got his ass kicked. He didn't stand a chance in hell.

I'll keep posting the prices as I find cheaper and cheaper. So far, $50 is the lowest of about half a dozen including UPS, FEDEX, Staples, and Vistaprint.

Your welcome. I a bit of a map geek and my browsing has taken me to the NPS map site at HF many times so it was an obvious place to look. It seems these maps are NPS specific so the AT is listed but NFS managed trails are not.

This is a National Geographic Map. I don't recall how or when I got it, but you might check National Geographic's webpage for something similar. I also don't know if all National Parks/Monuments/Sites, etc are listed, but many are, including Little Bighorn (I have the pin for it but ironically it is the one the flash hit on the top . . . doh!). I think I got the cork board from Office Depot or some other office type chain store.

I did a search there but apparently not a very good one. I found the one color map and rejected it. The other maps didn't come up. I was recently reconnected with a cousin of mine that works for the park service in some fashion. I put her to the task of finding me a map months ago and hadn't heard back from her so these maps are a great find after thinking I was S.O.L.

Kinda. ONly I plan on "sticking" my pin on the map not the borders. Quoted because I think I'll chop off the actual pin and use a bit of Velcro to attach it to the face of the map. I don't wanna go sticking a bunch of holes thru my map.

I had the large NG Map of the US on my wall over my bed when growing up. I would spend hours lying in bed looking at places on the map. It may be why I'm a map fan to this day. Years later I lost a year of my life when I discovered Google Earth!

Years later I lost a year of my life when I discovered Google Earth!I never had a map hanging over the bed or even one of those fancy gold globe using the old world maps. Yet I too am a map snob. I always had the atlas in the back seat with me on road trips. At "art time" (otherwise known as "I have a headache so all of you shut the hell up and draw something"), I would draw city maps Sim City style long before Sim City was ever a thing. I including shipping ports, airports, interstates, trains, bus routes, etc.

To this day if I buy a paper atlas, I check it for railroads and power lines. If they aren't included I put it back on the rack. I like the Gazette state maps.
