In 2008 I stayed with trail angel Dick Ludwig in Unionville at the "Mayor's House" and I would like to get back in contact with him. But Dick is not mentioned any more in any later trail journals, so apparently he is not trail angeling any more. As he was already in his late 60s back in 2008 I wonder if he is still alive.
Does anyone know what has happened to him and how to contact him?

I also stayed at his place in 08. I heard he got remarried a few years later and his new wife didn't like having the house full of smelly hikers, so he stopped doing it.
He's no longer the mayor, but a letter or card sent to the town hall will likely get to him, it's a really small town.
I stayed at the "Mayors House" a few years back while sectioning up there. A Southbounder named "Just Jill" told me it was a hoot so I took her advice, thanks Jill, it was quite a nice stop over and the supper was fantastic, I was sorry to hear it closed.

Sorry to hear of the passing of The Mayor.
Sorry to hear of Dick's passing. I finished my last section of the AT in Unionville and enjoyed a great celebration at his place in 2009. RIP Dick.
He was a great friend to the hiker community...as were his buddies Butch and Bill !!!
Sorry to hear of his passing. I had a great time at his house. Butch drove me up there along with three other hikers. Didn't stay, but had a shower and a great conversation.

This thread was just sent to me... I am deeply saddened to find out about the Mayor's passing. During my hike, he was the trail angel of all trail angels... Butch, Bill, and Dick allowed me to recover from Lyme's for well over a week. They refused to let me hike out until I was 100%. They brought me to the doctors, they brought me to get my meds, and they took care of me as if I was family.
In 2010, my girlfriend brought me out to the Wolf Preserve in Columbia, New Jersey... she also arranged for us to stay at the Mayor's, despite it being well out of hiker season. Bill, Butch, and Dick all rallied together... took us in and per usual were great hosts.
Dick was a great man that did more than just about anyone on the AT for the hiking community back in 2009... I will miss him. I must have told two dozen hikers about "The Mayor" during my hike last month... legend!
