View Full Version : 1/4 Zip Fleece options?

I currently have a few fleece tops, purchased for hunting or casual wear (not specifically for hiking). Most of them are heavy and bulky (14 oz and heavier). The lightest one I have is an orange Marmot that is very light (to me- 9oz) BUT it leaves little balls of orange lint EVERYWHERE. Heaven forbid I wear it with dark colored pants. That is my only complaint about it.
Anyone have suggestions for a lightweight fleece pullover that doesn't leave it's trace all over the rest of my clothes?
I have a Montbell Microchill Zip fleece that I love. It's 1/4 zip, my size large weighs 8.1oz, and it doesn't leave any lint behind on my clothes. A bit pricey, but I love it.

My warmest Mid Layer is a Patagonia Cap 4 Pro Zip 9.4 oz $78. I love it over layers, as a base layer, and even have thrown it on late evenings both with and without a down jacket. A very warm and versitile peice of equiptment. No fleece layer for me anymore. To answer you main question, no lint residue either.

Well, fleece is fleece. It comes in certain thicknesses, but otherwise it's probably all made by the same company. If yours is shedding, it's probably just worn out.

I assume it's same as cap 4 expedition wt? I have the .25 zip hoodie....one of the warmest most versatile pieces of gear I own!!! It never comes off during a winter hike....hike & sleep....breathes and dries fast....

Eastern Mountain Sports does fleece right in my opinion. I have about 7 fleece articles from them. A couple 1/4 zips (my large weighs about 8oz), a few vests, and a few pull overs. They typically come in a variety of colors from earth tones to high viz. I still have some in pretty good shape after wearing them regularly for a few years now. Never left fuzz everywhere. YKK zippers, solid construction.
If your patient, wait till they go on sale. I picked up all mine for DIRT cheap. I don't think I ever paid more than $15 or $20 for one of their fleece tops.

You can find fleece like these from Wal-mart. Yes, Wal-mart! Very light and cheap. I've picked some up for less than $10. Starter brand. No, they probaby won't last as long as big named brands. But they keep me warm, are light weight, and I don't care if a campfire spark burns a hole in it. ;0
