As I perused the ATC website today, I saw that the thruhike registry appeared to be up, so I gave it a try. Success.

I know it doesn't mean much other than another milestone on my thruhike, but I think it's a good way for people to spread themselves out.

So what happens if you don't register?

Nothing, not even bad karma. It's totally voluntary.

I suspect you will be almost through the Smokies when I start. So, I hope you don't see me because, if you do, you will have had a serious malfunction. I'm starting two weeks after you and will be in no hurry.

mostly, the registration is a good way for the ATC to get contact info so they can solicit donations

I'm registered as well. May 15 starting at Springer. I can't believe this is really happening. Years upon years of dreaming and planning out a hike and now it's finally happening.

Registered a month ago... still waiting for the stuff they were going to send in "two weeks". maybe they meant two weeks after the new year

So I go to the ATC site and cant find the calendar and registration info anymore. did it move or just down till new year? registered last month when they started taking reservations, and wanted to double check, but nada... am I having a senior moment and just don't see it?

http://www.appalachiantrail.org/home/explore-the-trail/thru-hiking/voluntary-thru-hiker-registration

Go to the registration page and select a start date. Hit “Go.”

Pick where you would like to begin your hike and click the box that corresponds with the date you would like to begin your hike.

Then click “REGISTER ONLINE.”

That should bring up the page where you enter your contact information. Your arrival date should be the date you want to begin your hike.

I just tried the website and it seems to be working just fine.

Is this what you were looking for? http://www.appalachiantrail.org/home/explore-the-trail/thru-hiking/voluntary-thru-hiker-registration

Can click the box with "2016 Thru-Hiker Registration Charts" to see how many people registered for which days.

My confirmation email says 4-6 weeks. They must've gotten swamped.

A tragic event happened to the person handling the mailing of the registration packets, and this has temporarily impacted ATC's ability to mail out the packets. Please bear with us until we are able to find a replacement.

Thanks, Cotton Terry.

We were able to update the thru-hiker registration charts at http://www.appalachiantrail.org/home/explore-the-trail/thru-hiking/voluntary-thru-hiker-registration/2016-thru-hiker-registration-charts this afternoon.

Note that this year we have separate charts for those registering at Amicalola Falls and Springer

That's when I'm more than likely registering to go. Can't wait, looking to hammock the whole thing although I know it's going to be brutally cold early on haha.
