Can anyone provide info for parking on VA671 where the TT leaves the road walk to begin the climb up Shockey's Knob. Would like to leave a car there over night if possible.

Thanks,
Twilight

Was able to find alternate parking with access to the Tuscarora Trail near the same location. See my post for Sleepy Creek Wildlife Management area in this same category under "other trails".

Thanks,

Yep. thats the parking area and the trails are in decent shape. I hiked the loop last year (Mill Race, TT and High Rock Trail, and Old TT (Red)) around this same time, the trails to the north late in the summer, and from 671 in to the shelter this fall. There is barely room for 1 car where the TT crosses VA 671 and it may be on private land. Shelter is nice, spring was dry both times I was there. The spring is past the first shelter side trail near the top of the mountain in an obvious saddle on the right if you come in NOBO. White blazed side trail. The view at the mini-knife edge is OK, and is a very short trail to the right in the obvious gap where you meet the junction with the white trail heading down the mountain. Probably 20 yards or so N of this junction off the TT. You should be able to see the outcrop as you approach the gap.

The spring near Shockey's knob may be difficult to find, even with the clearing/blazing recently done. Especially true in autumn. It's a small rock-lined pit, covered with a piece of red plexiglass or similar. Almost invisible when covered with leaves. But there was water in it.
