Having trouble deciding on my shelter, deciding between the Six Moon Designs Deschutes (Wild Oasis upgrade, 370g) tarp and either a flat tarp or mid with DIY bug net inner (600-800g). How much of an issue are the bugs/mice in the shelters and would they make the bug net worth bringing? Anyone have any experience with either, are there any other issues i should take into consideration?

I used the Deschutes on the AT. Didn't use many shelters. Used a head net for bugs and window shrink film for under my sleep pad . Total weight was 528g w tent pegs, pex extender for fixed trekking poles , polycro ground cloth and bag. Worked great . I could pitch it hi or low depending on the weather and face door away from wind. U could use a bug bivy or a Sea to Summit nano bug net. Then if u use shelters u have bug protection. The Gatewood cape was on sale . Never used that but it might work depending on how tall u r .

Have ves a great hike
