Like everyone else (I hope) we all play around to find the best combination of BTU's, weight, ease of use and compact form.

I started with the Coke can stoves and decided to try the TATO AB-13 Max.

I like the idea of the alcohol stove but the pocket rocket style seemed to always generate better results as in faster boiling times.

Just recently I downsized my pot choice to the Snowpeak Summit Cookset

http://snowpeak.com/collections/all/products/hybrid-summit-cookset-scs-004th?variant=671149393

Unfortunately all of my Pocket rocket items would fit into my new pot (solve one problem create another).

So I thought I would go back to try the alcohol stove option again.

The AB-13 works well but I was looking for a little bit more stability.

I saw this item :

Thought it might be a nice way to provide addition support

Seems to fit well :

Something for coffee, a Sea to Summit collapsing cup 16 oz

Something to scoop with:

All together:

Note: Weight was with a mini bucks lighter and small dish towel. I didn't include fuel as it would vary on the amount needed for the length of the trip.

Probably not the lightest setup but it seems to be the best combination of form, function and weight for me.

Thanks for reading.

What are the boil times? Also do you have a wind screen?

I'm currently using a 5" windscreen from TATO

33014

Don't remember exactly but it was 2 cups using less than ounce of fuel in around 5 minutes (best guess)

This guy posted a burn test video of the AB-13 Max

It took s solid 6:45 minutes for a hard boil. You can see small bubbles and hearing the boiling process start around 5:00 minutes.

Nothing scientific approx 2 cups, no wind (indoors) with tap water.

That is twice the weight of an 850ml to pot using a caldera cone. What is 6 oz. base weight worth to you? For that weight increase it would have to instantly boil water and give me a foot massage at the same time. But weight is obviously more important to me.

What purpose is the pot stand serving here? The pot is not touching it?!?

Greater stability by in siding the size of the base. Other than that no other purpose.

That's a pretty cool system. Thanks for the info.

They are also a great cottage company to deal with.

Sorry autocorrect!

The jetboil ring keeps the AB-13 Max alcohol stove centered up under the pot and the pot rests on the 3 supports of the AB-13. The jetboil ring gives additional support to the stove and pot by increasing the base size.
