Does anyone know how many miles it is from Max Patch to Hot Springs NC on the Appalachian Trail.

Without looking at my AT Data book it's about halfway between I-40 and Hot Springs something like 15-17 miles.You really need some version of a guide or data book.I just got the National Geographic map#782 and it has a good chunk of the AT plus side trails and local roadways too.

If you wait till about April,you won't need a guidebook or map, just follow the crowd.I picked someone up there last April and there was a hiker every few minutes to half hour or so passing over the summit of Max Patch.:eek:

Keep reading the threads about gear, tents, packs, sleeping gear, etc. etc. you'll learn a lot. car camping with day hikes is one option
I've not really got a budget just trying to stay resonance but I know cheaper isn't always better. I'm shooting for spring early summer to start hiking and planning on a small hike from Max Patch to Hot Springs
