Need to find a shuttle to pickup my sister and niece where the AT crosses RT60. Their vehicle will be parked either in Buena Vista or down at the James River bridge parking area.... me and two buddies will continue our section-hike further northbound after they are picked up. Our hike is scheduled for late April and I anticipate we will be at this location Monday morning April 25. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. A little nervous dropping off two ladies that I'm responsible for but they have to get back to teaching and school so they can only come for a couple of days.

I used Three Springs Hostel for a shuttle from Waynesboro to Rt 60 on Labor Day weekend 2015 and it went very well.

Not sure about my job as far as where I will be working or I would offer my help.

Thanks to all who have responded! WB is so cool... I've been section-hiking for the past 10 years (800 AT miles) and have always been able to make most of the necessary connections. This is so important for those who have to travel long distances to enjoy the AT.... thanks again, happy trails, john+

Another option to consider would be to leave their car at Long Mt. Wayside(where the AT meets Rt. 60). I hiked Swift Run Gap to Rt. 60 last October. I left my truck at the Wayside for seven days on the advice of Deer Hunter. No one bothered it.

Thanks Macdaddy... just googled the coordinates and the parking area looks decent and large... good information... thanks. Would you happen to know if USFS roads 48 (Hog Camp Gap) or 63 (Salt Log Gap) or 246 are accessible and potential for a shuttle pickup? I going to post this later but thought I'd send it to you. john+

Salt Log Gap is a gravel road that is accessible by car, should be fine for shuttle pickup. Deer Hunter is the best at giving advice for this area.. Send him a message .

My last night was at Hog Camp Gap. There were people car camping there. Gave us a bag of snack cakes, candy and granola bars and a gallon of well water, saved us from having to walk to the spring, gotta love trail magic!

FR 48 to Hog Camp Gap is a bit treacherous but we can get you there if your vehicle won't make it. Salt Log Gap Rd is pretty good. Call us for shuttles (Three Springs Hostel 434-922-7069) or just to chat about your trip. We often assist hikers w/ planning info about road & trail conditions. BTW, if you are staying with us we pick up and return you to the trail at Hog Camp Gap or Rt 60 at no cost.
