Brand New Tents- Do Seams need to Be Sealed?

Is it necessary to seal the seams of brand new tents?

I recently purchased a Hubba Hubba NX and can't locate appropriate info on this. If sealing the seams is appropriate, can you recommend a product?

Go to the bottom of the page and they have a video all about seam sealing your tent. Don't worry if you don't have a tarp tent, the principles are all the same.

Most large-scale manufacturers tape their seams. It should be good so long as the tape is intact.

From MSR:
Superior fabrics and construction make MSR tents extremely waterproof. The rainfly and floor are factory seam taped, so seam sealing is not necessary. If any problems develop over time, seam seal the specific area only, on the inner, shiny side of the area. Follow the instructions on the seam sealant tube. Use a syringe for accuracy. Allow the seam sealant to dry, then apply a light dusting of baby or talc powder to prevent it from sticking to the rest of the tent when stuffed or folded.

Tents that are made of a fabric with a polyurethane coating on the inside, will be taped for seam sealing. Tents made from silnylon cannot be taped as there is no tape on the market yet that will stick to the fabric. Silnylon tents must be seam sealed with a liquid silicone based seam sealer prior to use or they will leak at the seams.

My MSR Hubba NX-1 I bought new last year came with the fly's seams all taped. :)
